How much water does your dog actually need on a walk?
A simple rule of thumb for daily hydration — and how to spot dehydration before it becomes a problem.
Most vets recommend roughly one ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. That's a baseline — heat, exercise, and breed all push the number higher.
On a typical 45-minute walk, a medium-sized dog (40 lbs) will happily drink 4–6 ounces if you offer it. In summer, double that.
Early signs of dehydration: sticky gums, lethargy, loss of skin elasticity. If you pinch the scruff and it doesn't snap back instantly, it's time for water — now.
The easiest fix is making water available everywhere you go. A 300 ml bottle like PetSip Pro covers a full walk and fits in any side pocket.
