Training your dog to drink from a travel bottle
Some dogs get it in 30 seconds. Others need a week. Here's the patient way to get there.
Start at home, not on the trail. New objects on a walk get filed under 'suspicious' — introduce the bottle in your kitchen first.
Pour a small amount into the trough and let your dog approach on their own. Don't push the bottle toward their face. Most dogs will sniff, then sip within a minute.
Reward the first sip with a treat and quiet praise. Repeat twice a day for three days. By day four, the bottle is a positive object.
On your first walk with it, offer water in the first ten minutes — before they're thirsty. Familiar object + low-stakes context = an easy win.
